Grow through what you go through

Jessie Steury March 31, 2026

When I was going through cancer treatments, I found it really hard to work on the computer. Not because I couldn’t physically do it, or because I was too sick, but because I couldn’t shake the feeling of what’s the point? I just couldn’t bring myself to design stationery or party invitations that would end up in the trash.

Vintage barn windows given a new life with a stained glass mosaic.

I needed something to fill my days, so I started experimenting in my art room. It became a place where I could escape for a while. Working with my hands turned into a kind of therapy. It helped quiet my mind and carried me through some of the hardest days.

I find these windows beautiful with or without the light shining though.

Now, two years into remission, I’m still creating art by hand. I’ve made my way back to the computer too, but I’m committed to carving out time to keep making a mess, getting my hands dirty, and holding onto the thing that helped me heal.
